SUCCESSFUL SECOND EDITION OF MADRID FUSIÓN MANILA: THE MANILA GALLEON: EAST MEETS WEST

Madrid Fusión Manila 2016 was an astounding success! The second edition of the Gastronomy Congress and Gourmet Trade Fair took place between April 7-9 in the SMX Convention Center in Manila.   The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) hosts this event with the clear objective to put the Philippines on the map as a gastronomic destination in Asia. For the second consecutive year, MFM was  organized in collaboration with the DOT, Foro de Debate (Madrid Fusión) and the consultants of ARUM International Strategies.   MFM 2016, under this year’s theme “The Manila Galleon: East Meets West”, included the three-day congress with culinary presentations of acclaimed chefs from three continents who discussed ingredients, tradition, innovation and the influences shared since the onset of the galleon trade; a gourmet trade exhibition with demonstrations of Spanish and Filipino products whose objective is to increase awareness and the interchange of alimentary products between both countries; and the gastronomy festival “Flavors of the Philippines”, a month-long celebration of food with activities and events that took place throughout the archipelago.   1400 delegates attended the congress, and 8,000 professionals visited the trade fair that had more than 224 exhibitors was representing 17 countries.   The stars of the event were the chefs and speakers from both sides of the world.   From the West:   Antonio Sánchez de Mora (Archivo General de Indias in Seville, Spain); Ricard Camarena (Ricard Camarena, Spain); Jordi Butrón (EspaiSucre, Spain); Dani García (Dani García, España); Oscar Calleja (Annua, Spain); Fernando Pérez Arellano (Zaranda, Spain); Virgilio Martínez (Central, Peru); Enrique Olvera (Pujol, Mexico); Joan Roca (El Celler de Can Roca, Spain);... read more
